Australia’s largest rail freight operator, ASX-listed QR National, is recruiting for the new position of Vice President National Policy. The appointee will lead the development of QR’s national policy, particularly in relation to the Australian transport and logistics sectors.

QR National operates services across five states, in 2010/11 transporting more than 240 million tonnes of freight, including coal, iron ore, other minerals, agricultural products and general freight. It also operates and manages the 2300 kilometre Central Queensland coal network that links mines to coal ports at Bowen, Mackay and Gladstone.

The Queensland Government currently has a 34% holding in the company. The leader of the Queensland Liberal National Party, Campbell Newman has indicated that a government he leads could roll the shareholding into a state-owned sovereign wealth fund.
