Director Health & Safety

We are seeking a Director Health & Safety to lead a large and dynamic team of safety professionals and drive safety initiatives across our statewide health service. This is a full-time, ongoing position in People & Culture Division. While WFH/Hybrid options are available, it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a presence at Doncaster in line with our hybrid working model. 

About the role

Reporting to the Executive Director People & Culture, this role will strategically improve workforce health and safety by building a zero-harm culture and drive health and safety, injury management and return to work programs. Responsibilities include (not limited to): 

  • Develop and provide strategic direction, advice and support on policies, operational standards, guidelines and planning to embed and promote a safety and health-conscious culture
  • Lead the design and implementation of an organisation wide safety strategy to support AV's strategic objectives, building ownership and accountability of initiatives through engagement, education, and communication
  • Implement frameworks, initiatives and processes across the organisation which underpin the effective management of incidents or injuries in the workplace and rehabilitation of injured workers
  • Actively engage with key health and emergency services stakeholders on specialised policy development and industry strategies to meet changing workforce needs and challenges
  • Provide strong and effective leadership by fostering a performance based, collaborative culture focussed on continuous improvement and commitment to best practice 

About you 

To be considered for this position, you will have completed a postgraduate degree or industry specialised certification supplemented with relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of training and extensive relevant experience. Other requirements include (not limited to): 

  • Extensive experience providing high-level strategic and operational advice on development and delivery of innovative and responsive Health, Safety and Risk strategies, policies and programs in a complex industrial environment
  • Demonstrated ability to design strategies and change management plans for health and safety projects
  • Well-developed analytical skills, with the ability to identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement to WHS programs and systems
  • Exceptional communication, influencing and relationship-building skills, including the ability to prepare high quality reports, papers, and presentations for a variety of audiences
  • Proven experience and success in building and leading high-performing teams
