We are seeking a Head of Department and a dynamic leader for our Obstetrics and Gynaecology Services Central Coast Local health District (CCLHD)
You will play a pivotal role in enhancing patient flow and clinical governance within this department, whilst leading a team of dedicated clinical professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Governance: Oversee the clinical governance of Obstetrics and Gynaecology services, including conducting Annual Performance Reviews and developing and implementing clinical models of care aligned with best practices and quality improvement.
- Enhance Patient Flow: Ensure timely and effective interaction among team member, Emergency Department admissions, Allied Health, and other staff to minimise Length of Stay for patients
- Leadership and Communication: Disseminate critical information for decision-making and action within the department and represent the team at site and area Head of Department meetings.
Role Overview
In addition to the standard Senior Medical Practitioner position description for the relevant clinical specialty, the incumbent will work in the capacity of Head of Department for a three year term. This role involves close collaboration with the Operational Midwife Nurse Manager/District Director of Service and the Clinical Director in order to ensure delivery of high quality medical and health care services. The Head of Department will ensure efficient and effective use of the allocated resources, in line with organisational objectives and Clinical Services Plan.
About You
You are a dedicated and experience medical professional, should be a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists or hold other specialist recognition as provided for under the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Your commitment to excellence in patient care and clinical governance is evident in your professional journey.

The Local Health District maintains strong connections with both Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle, providing ample opportunities for professional collaboration and development.

- Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
- Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and / or other equivalent specialist recognition.
- Extensive and diverse experience in specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice in a comprehensive service setting and the ability to lead clinical teams, provide leadership and effectively manage staff.
- Commitment to clinical governance, continuous improvement and quality initiatives and improved patient outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships with colleagues and develop networks, both internal and external to the Organisation.
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability to negotiate and manage conflict.
- Well-developed problem solving and analytical skills including data analysis.
- Demonstrated commitment to Caring for the Coast vision, goals and strategies, with demonstrated behaviours which align to the NSW CORE Values and CCLHD Values and Behaviours charter.
