Job Description

Reporting directly to the Manager Safety & Risk, this position will play a key role in the implementation and maintenance of the risk framework, Council’s insurance program and public liability management for the organisation. Bringing a strategic focus, the Risk Coordinator will lead the Risk team with a focus on enabling the team to drive an empowering approach across Council and shift the team's positioning to being seen as a transformational, business partnering and support function that adds maximum value through the provision of expert advice and guidance.

Working closely with the Manager Safety & Risk, this role will support the Executive Leadership Team through pro-active engagement on risk issues that require their awareness or attention. Finally, this role will oversee the provision of specialist advice and support to stakeholders to facilitate operational compliance and ensuring strategies have considered the organisation's risk appetite and considerations.

With a genuine interest and demonstrated leadership and experience in risk management, insurance and public liability claims management, you will understand their importance and impact on all areas of Council and broader community. To excel in this role, you will also bring sound experience and expertise in managing risk, general insurance and public liability from a similar role. Experience working in government agencies and/or politically sensitive environments will be highly regarded.

This is a permanent full time position with an annual salary range of $121,828 - $135,627 per annum + 11% superannuation. 

You are based within our bright, modern and sustainable 311 Glenferrie Road office on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road in Malvern where boutique stores, cafes and health clubs are in abundance. From the office you can easily walk to Malvern Gardens, High Street Armadale or Glenferrie Road. Malvern and Armadale Train Station are a short walk away and tram stops are out the front of the building.

Desired Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role you have:

  • the ability to lead a constructure culture using superior supervisory skills, including contract management, performance management, budget management and project management.
  • the ability to provide professional expertise and specialist advice to ensure that all staff and contractors fully understands their obligations in relation to Risk Management.
  • the ability to ensure efficient and cost effective management of Council's liability and property insurance portfolio.
  • experience in the conduct of risk assessments and hazard audits as well as the development and implementation of Risk Management policies, systems, procedures and strategies.
  • experience in the development of practices and procedures in consultation with management to minimise Council’s exposure to risks.
  • knowledge of accident and claims investigation and litigation procedures, including corporate insurance brokerage.
  • management skills in convincing and gaining commitment, both upward and downward through the organisation and manage relevant interest groups.
