Principal Media Advisor
- $142,374 per annum plus Superannuation

- Geelong Headquarters - (Hybrid) - 3 days in office requirement
About the role
WorkSafe’s media team promotes workplace health and safety, recovery and return to work, and WorkSafe’s reputation in the media.
Working closely with senior leaders across WorkSafe, the Principal Media Advisor is responsible for planning and delivering proactive media opportunities to support strategic objectives, responding to complex media requests and providing strategic advice on significant media issues and reputational risks.
The Principal Media Advisor also assists to the Media Manager in guiding other members of the media team. Key accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the Media Manager with team planning and the development and implementation of WorkSafe’s media strategy.
- Anticipate and identify media issues and opportunities, providing expert strategic and timely advice to WorkSafe’s subject matter experts and senior leaders on managing potential reputational risks.
- Work closely with the Media Manager to lead WorkSafe's media response on high profile incidents and key issues, liaising directly with major media outlets and senior journalists on complex media enquiries.
- Lead the planning and delivery of media events and opportunities that support the strategic objectives of WorkSafe and the office of the Minister for WorkSafe.
- Provide leadership and guidance to support the development of other team members and deputise for the Media manager where required to ensure smooth workflow and allocation of tasks.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the Victorian media landscape and media operations. They will have extensive experience working with, or in, news media. In addition, they will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to distil complex ideas into clear messages. A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or public relations is required.
