About the role
Yindjibarndi Energy Corporation (YEC) is a partnership between Yindjibarndi Aboriginal Corporation (YAC) and international renewable energy company, ACEN Corporation (ACEN).
Representing one of the largest Indigenous-led renewable energy initiatives in Australia, YEC will see the Yindjibarndi people and ACEN work together to develop wind, solar, and renewable energy storage projects on Yindjibarndi Ngurra (country) – an area covering approximately 13,000 km2 within the Yindjibarndi Native Title Determination Areas in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This partnership agreement includes principles ensuring Yindjibarndi approval of all proposed project sites on Yindjibarndi Ngurra, Yindjibarndi equity participation of 25% - 50% in all constructed projects, preferred contracting for Yindjibarndi-owned businesses, and training and employment opportunities for Yindjibarndi people.
As a Project Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in conducting in-depth feasibility assessments and driving the execution of project development plans including securing, managing and coordinating internal and external consultants and contractors.
We seek a professional with the capacity to execute project plans for several rapidly growing projects, supporting the delivery of its renewable energy power generation, with an emphasis on integrated solar, wind and battery storage projects in the Pilbara region of WA.
What you'll be doing
- You will drive development activities through to project commencement, conduct site pre-feasibility, due diligence and screening activities to select the most suitable project locations and manage progress negotiations through to signed consents &/or land agreements.
- Progress planning & environment approvals and participating in stakeholder & community engagement.
- Assist with connection enquiries, applications and the process of obtaining grid connection approvals.
- Ensuring all project development planning is compliant with relevant laws, regulations and policies.
- Providing expert advice and guidance to internal stakeholders on project matters.
- Identifying and mitigating contractual risks to protect the company's interests and ensure all YEC actions are aligned to safety, heritage, the community and environment.
- Develop and implement robust processes in collaboration with legal, the YEC leadership team, to ensure on the ground contractors and local community partnership is successful to deliver the projects.
What we're looking for
- Extensive experience (5+ years) in a similar project development manager role.
- Engineering, or other relevant degree (equivalent competency).
- Demonstrated ability to originate, develop and manage projects with minimal supervision through to shovel ready status, ready for financing.
- Strong understanding of relevant laws, regulations, industry standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to assess and mitigate safety, heritage and environmental risk within the development phase.
- Demonstrated Pilbara experience and renewable energy exposure would be highly desirable.
