Victoria seeks new Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner
The Board of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) has called for applications for the position of Commissioner.
The VEOHRC is an independent statutory body that reports to the Victorian Parliament through the Attorney General.
The Commissioner position became vacant in August last year when the presiding Commissioner, Helen Szoke, resigned to take up the position of Race Discrimination Commissioner with the Australian Human Rights Commission. Karen Toohey, previously CEO of the Commission, has been Acting Commissioner since Dr Szoke’s departure.
The Commissioner will be appointed for a renewable term of five years.
