Thornley named global chief of Better Place
Global electric car charge network company Better Place has announced the appointment of David Thornley as the company’s new global Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Thornley, currently the CEO of the company’s Australian operations, will replace the company’s founder Shai Agassi in the role.
Chairman and billionaire businessman Idan Ofer paid tribute to Mr Agassi’s efforts, saying he steered the company from conception to reality.
“Under Shai’s leadership, we’ve successfully achieved our goals in the first chapter of Better Place, and we owe Shai our gratitude for turning his powerful vision into a reality,” Mr Ofer said.
Mr Thornley, who has been with the company in the same role since 2009, will assume the new role immediately.
In his four years as CEO of Better Place in Australia, Evan has built an impressive track record, particularly around establishing a strong set of industry partners there. Evan brings the right combination of entrepreneurship and coalition and team building to take Better Place to the next level,” Mr Ofer said.
Mr Thornley thanked the board for the appointment, saying the company is uniquely positioned to capitalise on the growing market.
"It has been my pleasure to lead that effort along with my colleague CEOs in Israel, Denmark and now the Netherlands. Today, it is an honour for me to step up and lead this fantastic global team on a day-to-day basis,” said Mr Thornley.
