Regulator creates consumer group
AEMO has launched a new group to bring consumers into energy decision-making.
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) has formed a Consumer and Community Reference Group (CCRG) in an effort to integrate diverse community perspectives into its operations and future planning amid the energy transition.
The CCRG’s 11 members, selected through a public expression of interest process, represent a broad range of interests, including small business consumers, large industrial entities, agricultural organisations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and rural areas.
AEMO says members were chosen for their energy expertise and ability to advocate for these varied groups.
More information on the CCRG, including member biographies, can be found on AEMO’s website.
Rebecca Irwin, AEMO’s Executive General Manager for Government & Stakeholder, says that attracting a diverse membership is crucial to better understanding public energy concerns.
“Energy is at the forefront of many minds, from costs to new infrastructure,” she said.
Part of AEMO’s FY25 Strategic Corporate Plan, the CCRG replaces the former Advisory Council on Social Licence.
