Microsoft has expanded its trainee program in Australia.

The tech giant says that after its first cohort of 38 trainees in Sydney in 2019, with another cohort starting June 2019, it is time to expand the Microsoft Traineeship Program to South Australia.

The program combines education and on-the-job experience for students at the start of their IT career.

Successful trainees receive a nationally accredited qualification, Certificate IV in Information Technology, and some of the latest cloud  computing Microsoft certifications as part of the Azure Administrator Certification Track.

The South Australian Government has contributed $200,000 to the program to provide 40 people with two-year traineeships, according to innovation and skills minister David Pisoni.

Aspiring trainees and businesses are being sought to partake in the program, with the likes of Datacom, DXC Technology, HCL and Compnow already having signed on in SA.

The Sydney and Canberra versions include DXC as well as ANZ, KPMG, and Dicker Data.

“It’s critical for our state’s future economic success that our workforce is suitably skilled to meet industry needs - particularly at a time of unprecedented opportunity in sectors such as space, cyber security and defence,” Mr Pisoni.
