Jetstar has announced it is considering relocating some of its senior management from Melbourne to an Asian centre in an attempt to follow the lucrative fast-growing markets in China and other parts of the region.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the Qantas subsidiary would most likely relocate to Hong Kong in an attempt to increase its presence in the north Asian region.

However, Jetstar would face the prospect of structuring a relocation of executives to Asia in such a way that would circumvent the Air Navigation Act that stipulates that airlines must have its operational base and head office in Australia in order to be considered an Australian international carrier.

The SMH found that the group's chief executive, Bruce Buchanan, would most likely move to Asia.
