Principal directors of the George Institute for Global Health, Professor Stephen MacMahon and Professor Robyn Norton, have announced Associate Professor Vlado Perkovic as the executive director of the George Institute in Australia.

 

"We are pleased to announce, in association with the University of Sydney, that Vlado Perkovic has been appointed Professor and Executive Director of The George Institute Australia," Professor MacMahon said.

 

"Professor Perkovic was appointed through a highly competitive international process and we are thrilled to welcome him to this role," Professor Norton said.

 

The new position is a full professorial appointment through Sydney Medical School at the University of Sydney, with which The George Institute is affiliated in Australia.

 

"I am delighted and honoured to take on this new role at an exciting time of maturation and growth for The George Institute in Australia, especially given the Institute's recent ranking as the number one research institution in the world for scientific impact, by the SCImago Institution Rankings (SIR) World Report 2011," Professor Perkovic said.

 

Before joining The George Institute in 2003, Professor Perkovic worked as a nephrologist, heading the largest dialysis unit in the southern hemisphere, at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

 

Since joining the Institute, Professor Perkovic's nephrology research has focused on the conduct of large scale clinical trials and meta-analyses, the findings of which have contributed to the development of clinical practice guidelines in Australia and globally.
