Former director of Telstra Media Chris Taylor has been appointed as Quickflix’s new CEO, effective immediately.

Quickflix, which posts an average of $11 million in profit, rents out physical DVD’s through the postal system and is in direct competition with Telstra’s BigPond Movies, which offers a similar service.

"I'd been watching Quickflix for some time as competitor to BigPond Movies when I worked at Telstra," Mr Taylor said.

Mr Taylor was recruited to the position for his extensive digital media experience he gathered after launching Telstra’s Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services through the telco’s T-Box device, which launched in June 2010.

Mr Taylor will join his former boss at Telstra, former BigPond chief Justin Milne, who joined Quickflix as deputy chairman last week.

Quickflix founder and executive chairman Stephen Langsford praised Mr Taylor’s skillset, saying he was one of only a few Australian executives with experience in the IPTV field.

The recruitment of Mr Taylor adds weight to the expectation that Quickflix will be moving towards an IPTV delivery mechanism within the coming years. Although IPTV holds a relatively small market share of movie viewing, it is believed it will grow exponentially as the National Broadband Network facilitates expanded bandwidth delivery to a larger audience.
