Australia’s critical infrastructure now has a cyber survival guide.

The Australian Signals Directorate’s Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) has released new guidelines to help critical infrastructure providers safeguard operational technology (OT) systems and supply chains from cyber threats. 

These measures are outlined in the recently published ‘Principles of Operational Technology Cyber Security’, developed in consultation with industry and endorsed by international intelligence partners.

Operational technology is crucial to the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of essential services, from power generation to water management. 

According to the ACSC, robust cyber security practices must be embedded into OT environments to protect the safety, availability, and integrity of these critical systems.

The new guidelines aim to help stakeholders, such as leaders and developers, identify and mitigate cyber risks specific to OT. 

The ACSC says informed decision-making is essential to the design, implementation, and management of secure OT environments.

Organisations can use the principles to assess their current security posture and address any vulnerabilities. 

The ACSC also encourages all critical infrastructure entities to join the ASD Cyber Security Partnership Program, which provides free access to cyber threat alerts and security advice.
