Bodies float worries on offshore gas
A public hearing today will listen to safety concerns about floating liquefied natural gas projects off the West Australian coast.
It will investigate a range of concerns about the sometimes-controversial gas operations, at a time when Australian and international firms are eager to tap into the vast reserves of oceanic gas.
The Economics and Industry Standing Committee will hold a series of hearings, beginning to today, to hear the state of play in Australia's oil and gas sector.
A range of representatives from key stakeholders are expected to voice their companies’ views.
The speakers come from ConocoPhillips Australia, the Australian Workers Union and Esso Australia Resources.
The parliamentary committee has previously heard from the Department of Mines and Petroleum, Woodside Energy, the Maritime Union of Australia, INPEX Operations Australia, and the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association.
