The Australian Government has announced the appointment of 14 new members to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

These appointments are part of a strategy to maintain the Tribunal's capacity to hear matters efficiently ahead of the establishment of the new Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) on 14 October 2024.

The newly appointed members, who will start their terms on 19 August 2024, were selected through an independent process.

Each candidate was assessed by an independent selection panel, ensuring they met the criteria outlined in the Guidelines for appointments to the AAT and the requirements set out in the Administrative Review Tribunal Act 2024.

The appointed members are:

  • Mr Mark Carey

  • Mr Richard Chia

  • Dr Andrew Cichy

  • Ms Alison Colvin

  • Ms Meredith Graham

  • Mrs Rachelle Hampson

  • Ms Laura-Leigh Manville

  • Dr Paul Millar

  • Ms Dominique Murphy

  • Mr Jonathon Papalia

  • Ms Kathryn Thornton

  • Mrs Julie von Doussa

  • Ms Susan Waring

  • Ms Catherine Willis

The transition to the ART is expected to streamline administrative review processes in Australia.

The government says it will announce further appointments to both the AAT and ART in the coming months.

More information on the new ART is available on the Attorney-General’s website.
